Sedation and analgesia
Morphine infusion
Add 120mg (40mg/ml vial x3) of morphine to 57mls of normal saline to give a solution of 2mg/ml Print version
Midazolam
Draw up 12 ampules of 10mg/5ml solution of Midazolam neat into a 60ml syringe. Titrate rate (2mg /ml) as required.
Propofol infusion
Draw up 3 vials (each 20ml) of 10mg/ml neat solution. Bolus dose 20mg (2ml), then titrate to clinical effectiveness.Print version
Inotropes
Adr or NorAdr infusion
1ml/hr = 1mcg/min
5ml/hr = 5mcg/min
Adrenaline or Noradrenaline
Add 3mg to dextrose 5% to make up to 50ml.
Formula dose/mls x rate/60.
1mg = 1000mcg
Dopamine or dobutamine
Dopamine /Dobutamine infusion
1ml/hr = 1mcg/kg/min
5ml/hr = 5mcg/kg/min
Patient’s wt (kg) x3 = number of mg of drug in dextrose 5% to make up to 50mls
(e.g. patient weight =60kg. Need to add 180mg dopamine or dobutamine and dilute to total 50mls of 5% dextrose)

Glyceryl Trinitrate (GTN) infusion
- Add 50mg/10ml ampule of GTN to 490ml saline to give mixture of 100micrograms/ml.
- Start at 10ug/min and titrate
Notes
- GTN is incompatible with PVC - Baxter's Viaflex cannot be used
- IGTN is compatible with polyethylene (do use Braun's Ecofac)
