Combivir & Kaletra
Combivir
- Combivir is a combination of 2 drugs (Retrovir and Epivir).
- These are both Nucleoside reverse transciptase inhibitor drugs (NRTIs).
- Generally, two NRTIs are used in all triple therapy (HAART) drug combinations.
- Take one tablet twice a day, morning and evening (at 12 hour intervals as far as possible).
- Combivir can be taken with or without food.
- Potential side effects
(generally mild)
- headaches
- nausea, rash, fatigue
- numbness or tingling of limbs
Kaletra
- Combination of two protease inhibitors (Ritonavir and Lopinavir)
- Take two tablets twice daily approx. 12 hours apart.
- There are no food restrictions.
- Potential side effects include
- Tingling in hand and feet
- Nausea
- Skin rashes
- Myalgia
- Fatigue
- Anaemia (and neutropenia)
